Our story

About InnovateCheck

A small plagiarism tool we built for students like us — because the existing ones either cost too much or don't really work for the kind of writing we do here.

How it started

InnovateCheck began in 2025 as a final-year project at ICT University in Yaoundé. We kept losing marks on assignments for "unoriginal" passages we hadn't actually copied — and the tools our lecturers used were a black box. So we built our own.

What we wanted

Something free to try, fast to use, and that shows you the actual source it matched against — not just a percentage. If it flags your text, you should be able to click through and see why.

Where it's going

Right now the matcher only checks public Wikipedia pages, which is honestly the most common source for student paraphrasing. We're adding broader web sources, DOCX/PDF parsing improvements, and an AI-text indicator over the next semester.

Who it's for

S

Students

Run a quick check before you submit — especially if you've been paraphrasing from a source. You'll see which sentences look too close to the original.

T

Lecturers

Bring up a submission, see the matched sources, and have an actual conversation with the student about it instead of arguing over a black-box score.

I

Schools

If you'd like to use this with a whole class or department, get in touch — we can give you a managed setup.

A few things we care about

Your text stays with you

The scan happens in your browser. We don't store the text you paste unless you choose to save the scan to your account.

No black-box scores

Every flagged sentence links to the source it matched. If we can't show you the source, we don't flag it.

Built locally

Made in Yaoundé, for the way we actually write essays and project reports here — bilingual, mixed citations, sometimes rushed.

Still a work in progress

This is a student project, not a polished product. Things will change. If something is broken, please tell us on the contact page.

The team

InnovateCheck is built by five final-year students at ICT University, Yaoundé — Cameroon.
